As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for crafting clear, concise and comprehensive content that supports Calgary Police Service (CPS) Information Technology Section products and services. Gather information to produce complex technical concepts into user friendly materials and facilitate critical information to clients. Primary duties include:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop high quality technical content, including runbooks, support documentation, training materials, and manuals.
  • Develop runbooks and support documentation, inclusive of architecture diagrams and process flow diagrams.
  • Create training materials, catering to a variety of learning styles; ensuring accuracy of technical terms are clearly and concisely communicated to target audience.
  • Review, edit and organize content for clarity, coherence, accuracy and technical integrity.
  • Research and analyze program learners¿ needs to determine their needs, knowledge level and delivery style for optimal effectiveness.
  • Organize and maintain a centralized content repository, ensuring version control and easy access for team members and other parties.
 
Qualifications 
  • A diploma in Technical Writing, Business Administration, Computer Science or directly related field and at least of 5 years of technical writing experience; OR
  • A degree in Technical Writing, Business Administration, Computer Science or directly related field, and at least 3 years of technical writing experience.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visio
  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro, SharePoint, page layout and web editing software will be considered assets.
  • Experience in Information Technology related products material development will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires excellent communications skills, analytical thinking, change management, coaching & development, efficiency & thoroughness, focus on results, and relationship building.

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
