As a Curriculum Designer in the Learning and Development unit, you will work with various units in Calgary Police Service (CPS) to determine training for specialist development. You will be responsible for conducting needs assessments, designing training curriculum, writing training documents, supervising the implementation of courses, and evaluating the effectiveness of the courses and their delivery.  Specific duties include:

  • Analyze learning needs, determining project goals, learning objectives, and performance measurements by collaborating with subject matter experts and project managers.
  • Design and develop face-to-face, online, and blended learning materials to improve the transfer of learning and engage learners by utilizing adult learning principles and best practices in instructional methodology.
  • Map and align curriculum to learning objectives, assessment/evaluation methods, and competency-based education.
  • Utilize evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of learning and training solutions.
  • Consult and build relationships with various subject matter experts and partners in policing agencies, government, post-secondary education, and the community.
  • Stay informed of trends in learning design to apply current research and theory to the practice of instructional design.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Education, Adult Education or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience in learning and development.
  • A thorough understanding of adult learning theory, curriculum design and research-based learning.
  • Experience using Articulate Storyline is an asset.
  • Prior experience in a law enforcement environment will be considered an asset.
  • Proven organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to set appropriate priorities, manage workloads and multiple projects independently and as part of a team.
  • You will be results focused with strong relationship building skills. You will be a good communicator who is effective and thorough. You will be able to work effectively in a changing environment and be able to demonstrate analytical thinking.
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $44.20 - 59.09 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
