As a Financial Analyst, you are involved to financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, along with financial statement preparation for the Calgary Police Service (CPS).  Primary duties include:

  • Ensure integrity, timeliness and accuracy in the compilation, reconciliation, analysis and consolidation of financial information. 
  • Maintain budget database for salary and wages, along with full-time equivalent (FTE) projection and forecasting.
  • Regular analysis of authorized and actual FTEs in alignment to position budget controls.
  • Monthly compilation, analysis and reporting to overtime and employee benefit obligation.
  • Assist in monthly, periodic and year end reporting tasks in alignment with City of Calgary requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements in compliance to regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Assist as required with capital budgets in alignment to spend schedules and necessary reporting.
  • Contribution to internal and external audit requirements throughout the year.
  • Assist with maintenance of financial policies, internal controls and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to CPS.
  • Project involvement, presentations and other tasks as required.

 
 
Qualifications 
  • A professional accounting designation such as Charted Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified General Accountant or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of financial or accounting experience, preferably in a large organization involved with budgeting, financial reporting and variance analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Peoplesoft Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) and Human Capital Management (HCM) is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook) is also required.
  • Experience using Hyperion budgeting software and InTime scheduling software is considered an asset.
  • The ability to interpret financial reports and collective agreements is preferred.
  • Success in this position requires strong analytical thinking, change management, coach and development and efficiency and thoroughness. An effective communicator with a focus on results and the ability to build strong relationships.

  • An enhanced security clearance and credit bureau check will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $42.09 - 56.27 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
