As Rights-of-Way (ROW) Inspector, you will ensure roadway infrastructure is maintained, inspected, and repaired properly to ensure its longevity. You will support a variety of projects including utility installations, road networks, special projects, and major interchange construction. In this position, you will ensure appropriate revenues are recovered from internal and external parties when they need to perform work in the roadway. Primary duties include:

  • Conducts condition reviews of the following Right of Way (ROW) infrastructure: pavement, concrete, boulevard, lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes, bus stops, pedestrian walkways, and overpasses.
  • Measure and record excavated dimension for billing purposes. Develop work lists and perform permit repair markings.
  • Perform safety assessment at all sites to ensuring safety and accessibility to the public and are free of hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with the Roads Standards and Specifications manual on completion of excavation, construction, and other maintenance activities.
  • Communicate with Project Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, Leaders, and other interested parties to advise on rectification of infrastructure deficiencies.
  • Assist with contract and project administration using a variety of software including ArcGIS.
  • Conduct quality assurance of Snow and Ice Control (SNIC) program handwork crews.

 
Qualifications 

  • A completed 2-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with road design, construction, inspection, soils, concrete, geotechnical engineering or other related experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Knowledge of construction technology, environmental protection, and hazard assessments is an asset. 
  • Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be considered an asset.

Pre-employment Requirements 
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
 
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
