As a Business Strategist, you will work independently and with leadership and staff across Corporate Security's divisions, providing strategic expertise to engage leadership, staff and partners in navigating complex and emerging issues; planning and managing priority programs and projects, and support planning and performance reporting. You will collaborate with leadership and staff to create and revise short and long-term strategic plans, provide key leadership and support on the development and implementation of improvement initiatives, service plans and budgeting and risk related activities. Primary duties include:

  • Lead corporate performance reporting initiatives that inform Council and Calgarians on Corporate Security's progress towards delivering commitments made in the service plans and budgets.
  • Provide strategic updates and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team on emerging business issues, strategic challenges, business planning, budgeting, risk, and corporate reporting.
  • Lead and manage performance measurement and benchmarking framework.
  • Embed enterprise risk management strategies and processes into the departmental business planning process and manage, maintain, and report on Corporate Security risks.
  • Research and report on security trends, risks, impacts, and changing client and customer needs.
  • Lead reporting analytics, including the identification of key performance indicators, data management strategy, and the assist with the implementation of necessary reports and dashboards.
  • Develop incremental and sustainable improvements to business systems and processes to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness, while enhancing innovation and adaptability of service delivery.
  • Consult with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), involved parties and leadership to evaluate existing programs, policies and procedures, and research alternatives to make recommendations for service improvement.
  • Build strategic working relationships with various parties across the business to support the coordination and alignment of initiatives and identify solutions to operational challenges.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Commerce, Business Management, Business Planning, Public Administration or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, policy development and/or operations, OR;
  • A graduate degree in Commerce, Business Management, Business Planning, Public Administration, or a related discipline and at least 1 year of experience in strategic planning, policy development and/or operations.
  • Experience with project management, process improvement and change management in an operational work environment will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with human-centered design and design thinking will also be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires well developed consultation, analytical and strategic thinking skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team and build collaborative working relationships.
