As a Journeyperson 1, Automotive Service Technician for Calgary Transit Access, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of medium duty vehicles. Primary duties include: 
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and associate repair work including conducting government mandated inspections.
  • Complete paperwork and install inspection certificates.
  • Create repair estimates and create concise job work order notes.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair light and medium duty vehicles that are broken down including the use of computerized diagnostic tools.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to Apprentice and Serviceman.
 
Qualifications 
  • A completed Journeyperson Certificate as an Automotive Service Technician recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training or an equivalent Red Seal. 
  • Experience performing complicated troubleshooting and diagnostic, maintenance and repair procedures for engine, electrical, air, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Must have a standard set of mechanic hand tools and toolbox. 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Must obtain the following within 3-months: 
    • A City of Calgary operator's permit.
    • A Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) license. 
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) is considered an asset. 
 
Working Conditions: Working in a shop around noise, chemicals and vehicle fumes with moving parts and tools. You will be required to operate medium duty vehicles and equipment for the purpose of testing and may be required to work outdoors to perform diagnosis and repair work. 
 
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • A security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
 
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
