As a Measurement Technologist you have a technical role in supporting the increasing requirements of modern metering and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). You will provide the technical knowledge base for the section, covering; meter technologies (existing, new, and emerging) and the proper application for the various customer classes and applications, specification reviews and updates, construction specs, bylaw reviews, project, and program management (Meter Test facility, Effluent, complex customers, SCADA, etc.) and regulatory requirements. Primary duties include:

  • Manage complex customer metering installations for large volume consumers and unique metering applications such as effluent, deduction and irrigation meters.
  • Work directly with customers and their consultants to develop and approve solutions.
  • Maintains records and monitors compliance.
  • Lead the team as a Subject Matter Expert for all metering inquiries.
  • Provide the technical knowledge base for the section.
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies and practices and explore how they can be applied within the City.
  • Research manufacturers and suppliers and conduct product assessments and approvals to determine how new products might be applicable for the various customer classes and applications within the City.
  • Monitor continuously and update program guidelines to keep pace with changes in technology and section policies.
  • Maintain construction specifications, drawings, and bylaws to ensure they are up-to-date and reflect current technology and practices.
  • Identify and manage projects related to sustainment and continuous improvement of the Meter section.

 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2 year technical diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology (preference given to Instrumentation).
  • A least 5 years of experience in above or related to the municipal utility sector.
  • Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation is required.
  • Experience leading and directing others is required.
  • Experience and/or certification in a recognized quality assurance program is considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience with provincial or federal metering regulatory bodies is considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional site visits with requiring PPE.

  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
