As a Planner 2 on the Growth Analytics team, you will work to implement The City's vision as captured in the Municipal Development Plan by supporting sound decision making that enables strategic growth and change. You will work with internal and external partners on analytical tasks related to land use planning and infrastructure planning. You will proactively manage a range of other general City planning responsibilities, including increasing awareness of planning data and analysis among partners (including City business units, industry, and Council), implementing various City planning policies and procedures, and articulating and supporting strategic growth outcomes. Primary duties include:
  • Provide professional and technical expertise supporting senior management and Council decision-making via analysis, particularly on the subjects of strategic growth policy, capital and operating investments, and population/employment trends.
  • Collaborate with community planners and capital planners on planning initiatives that involve population and employment analysis.
  • Development and stewardship of key data sources, providing customer service on data availability and use.
  • Conduct research and technical analysis using Geographic Information Systems, Microsoft Excel and other modeling methods; contribute to policy work and performance measurement, and formulate recommendations based on analysis.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners who are involved in the development and citizen engagement processes.
  • Respond to requests for information, high priority issues, politically sensitive situations and customer service requests.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Planning that is recognized by the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) and at least 3 years of relevant planning experience; OR
  • A degree in a Planning-related discipline, and at least 4 years of relevant planning experience.
  • Experience and knowledge with evaluating, consolidating or analyzing a variety of data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required.
  • Experience using GIS for spatial analysis, advanced geoprocessing, and development and maintenance of spatial geodatabases is considered an asset.
  • Experience with forecasting and growth modelling (population, housing, employment) would be considered an asset.
  • Previous working experience in urban environment, municipal infrastructure planning, and experience presenting to external partners (citizens, industry, and approving authorities) would be considered assets.  
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel) would be considered an asset.
  • You are a strong communicator with excellent customer service skills and a demonstrated ability to build beneficial relationships, facilitate conflict resolution, and contribute to team goals.
  • You demonstrate superior planning analysis based on strategic and analytical thinking, with a track record of accomplishments.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
