As a Leader, Occupational Safety, you will be responsible for corporate coordination, issue management and communications regarding the development, implementation and improvement of The City's Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System.  You will develop, maintain and advance supporting policies, procedures and programs that ensure system compliance to industry standards.  Primary duties include:

  • Lead and direct a team of Occupational Health and Safety professionals, contractors and students on special assignments.
  • Assign and direct OHS projects and programs, monitor and measure performance related to project and program goals and objectives, and review work in progress.
  • Assist in establishing division work plans and Business Unit strategic and business plans, including operating budget and capital budget preparation.
  • Develop and evaluate corporate-level policies, procedures, measurement systems and reporting processes that ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provide direction to various business units on OHS procedures and processes unique to their business activities.
  • Complete thorough needs assessments and identify new safety initiatives to reduce safety risk exposure, reduce cost or improve resource allocation.
  • Coordinate several projects (for example: Safety Training, Audiometric testing, Occupational Hygiene, Corporate Safety Risk Evaluation, and Ergonomics); oversee multi-functional interdepartmental teams to implement programs or services to improve safety performance.
  • Communicate corporate risk exposure related to employee health and safety and communicate risk to senior management.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related area and at least 4 years of relevant workplace safety experience, OR;
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and at least 8 years of relevant workplace safety experience.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing employees and supporting their professional development is preferred.
  • Strong facilitation skills, discretion and good judgement, the ability to influence and negotiate with individuals and groups, strong systematic and critical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively and establish collaborative working relationships.

Compensation: Level F $94,168 - 144,228 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
