As a Safe Workplace Strategist supporting Water Services, you will be responsible for providing support and advice to various teams and committees across the Operational Services department. You will perform ongoing research, identify best practices, forecast trends, benchmarking, and analysis to prompt recommendations to improve processes, policies, procedures, and behaviours related to workplace safety. You will lead time-sensitive projects, analyze data and research, recommend best practices, and liaise with experts in the industry and the corporation. Primary duties include:

  • Conduct strategic planning, research, gap analysis, benchmarking, forecasting trends in workplace safety-related topics.
  • Facilitate engagement to provide strategic guidance and advice to inform recommendations and key decisions.
  • Ensure alignment to departmental, business unit, and divisional safety issues, and business priorities, and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead internal/external audits and conduct program reviews to support ongoing continuous improvement of safety systems, and programs.
  • Work with key partners to develop reports for the department leadership team, and departmental safety committee, and support other key governance functions.
  • Lead the review and development of key departmental safety strategies and standard operating procedures. Manage projects, monitor workplan and regularly report on progress.
  • Work with management teams to scope project deliverables and outcomes.
  • Lead project planning and delivery of projects including the oversight of project teams and contractors/consultants as appropriate.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Commerce, Business Management, Public Policy, Social Science, or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, policy development, continuous improvement, and business analysis.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of OHS legislation or corporate safety standards and Safety Data Management System (SDMS) will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced work environment and leading or supporting major change initiatives in a large corporate setting.
  • Experience in developing, presenting, and implementing strategic business plans and initiatives, as well as project management would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $42.09 - 56.27 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
