As the Leader, Traffic Field Operations, you will assist the Manager in the safe and efficient operation of Traffic Field Operations through directing foremen, supervisors, and providing advice on various activities of the division including: recruiting staff, assigning work, attending labour/safety meetings, counseling/discipline, representing management at grievances; collaborating with other internal/external partners regarding short and long term strategic planning to provide services; budget preparation and maintenance; researching equipment, materials and methods; ensuring crew compliance with environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)  requirements. Primary duties include:
  • Lead staffing initiatives including recruitment; assignment of staff to teams; organization of labour/management and safety meetings; counseling and disciplinary activity.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure efficient and effective delivery of Traffic Field Operations services.
  • Prepare and maintain budget.
  • Research, evaluate and purchase equipment according to OH&S and environmental requirements to ensure efficient and effective delivery of service.
  • Collaborate with Mobility Environmental Specialist and train staff regarding environmental compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct field inspections, quality control and hazard assessments.
 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2 year diploma in Business or Civil Technology with at least 10 years of experience dealing with operational field crews in a unionized environment.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • A solid understanding of environmental regulations related to materials used for traffic control devices and knowledge of the safety responsibilities required under current OH&S legislation and standards is essential.
  • This position will also require excellent communications skills both written and verbal, and demonstrated leadership skills in supporting and coaching staff.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, analytical and change management skills are also required.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
