As a Transit Project Engineer, you will manage quality, budget and schedule of capital projects associated with maintaining and improving Calgary Transit Infrastructure. You will apply a technical understanding within a variety of disciplines including but not limited to civil and transportation engineering. Primary duties include:
  • Prepare procurement documents and evaluate consultant proposals to hire engineering and new technology consultants.
  • Coordinate and manage small and medium sized capital projects through the initiation, detailed design, construction and final acceptance stages; ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget meeting quality requirements.  
  • Monitor and control ongoing project expenditures; administer all project invoicing/process claims.
  • Coordinate the development of communication plans and engagement process.
  • Design and participate in the improvement of Calgary Transit project management processes. Develop project charters, project plans and risk management plans.
  • Manage project close-out phase by ensuring the submission of record drawings, warranties and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals as well as special equipment commissioning. Ensure Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) are complete.
  • Organize lessons learned sessions and manage the closure of all deficiencies with consultants, vendors and contractors.
  • Work with internal Calgary Transit clients to define unique operational problems, develop and implement the solutions that may involve other City of Calgary business units and outside resources.
  • Supervise the work of internal Calgary Transit crews and outside contractors during the project commissioning and the initial sustainment process.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with a P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience as a professional engineer is not required, this is an entry level engineering position, applicants who have completed or are close to completing the City's EIT Program are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with some experience in Public Transportation project management. 
  • Success in this position requires excellent communication and organizational skills. 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
