As a Senior Buildings Infrastructure Engineer, you will plan, design, and implement asset management strategies and processes for City's Facilities portfolio. You will develop and manage the "at risk" buildings inspection program, which will involve data gathering through variety of sources, including existing condition assessment reports, known design deficiencies due to changes in code or due to changes during original design and construction, and through engagement with Facilities business unit staff. Primary duties include: 

  • Create and maintain "at risk" buildings register for the City's aging facilities.
  • Develop and manage a detailed engineering inspections program, which will be above and beyond the typical building condition assessment scope for select "at risk" facilities. 
  • Use the City's "Owner's best practices guide for the Maintenance of Structural Components in Higher Risk Buildings" guideline to develop and manage structural components inspection program for City Facilities.
  • Develop and maintain the Facilities Technical and Strategic Asset Management Plans. 
  • Provide functional supervision, guidance, and training to Facilities Inspection Engineer and Building Infrastructure Engineer with respect to data gathering, research, and investigation. 
  • Develop and manage miscellaneous engineered structures assessment program. 
  • Monitor the short and long-term progress of the Facilities Asset Management program and take action to ensure Asset Management Policy and other regulatory requirements and objectives are being met. 
  • Research and implement relevant best practices in the fields of facility condition assessment, root cause failure analysis, and establish deferred maintenance practice through reliability assessment method for Facilities. 
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Civil Engineering and at least 9 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience in Structural and Building Envelope Engineering, building condition assessment and lifecycle plan preparation is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
  • Experience in asset management, project management, and working with the City's building condition assessment program will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires strong strategic and critical thinking, excellent problem solving, planning, communication skills, independent decision making, and the ability to build solid working relationships. 
Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional field work.
