As the Geospatial Business Specialist, you will provide Water Utility clients with leadership, professional consulting, and management support services in developing strategic implementation plans for the successful implementation, integration, and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies. In this role, you will coordinate and manage geospatial resources and projects within the Water Utility, including geospatial solutions in Programs, Capital, and Operational areas of the business. This role will collaborate with partners to strategically and technically assess system capabilities and implement optimal solutions for the Water Utility and its service lines. Additionally, you will investigate current and future business needs to provide innovative, efficient, and collaborative City services for both current and future business cycles. Primary duties include:

  • Coordinate geospatial resources and perform intake of project requests.
  • Manage geospatial project financials, report to project sponsors, and ensure compliance with Water Utility stage gating standards.
  • Plan and execute communication strategies, both formal and informal, to convey technology and project updates to relevant audiences.
  • Track and report on Water Utility projects, collaborating closely with IT Project Managers, Business Project Managers, and subject matter experts to ensure projects are properly resourced and executed in the correct sequence.
  • Ensure strategies, policies, and standards align with Corporate Geospatial, Business, and IT plans.
  • Develop project deliverables, estimates, resource requirements, schedules, and project budgets.
  • Organize and assemble project teams, establishing team member roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
  • Conduct GIS requirements and needs analysis sessions.
  • Participate in and/or lead corporate task forces, committees, or project teams involved in GIS-related activities.
  • Evaluate emerging GIS and related technologies, best practices, trends, and alternative service providers to provide technology leadership to clients.
 
Qualifications 
  • A Degree in Geography, Geographic Information System (GIS), Engineering, Planning or a related field. 
  • At least 4 years of related experience. 
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered. 
  • Extensive experience with the ESRI Technology stack including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop tools, ESRI¿s Mobility Suite tools and ArcGIS Enterprise. 
  • A deep understanding of internal geospatial knowledge, Water's solutions, and the Water Utilities' processes, functions, and workflows is essential for success in this role.
  • Broad exposure to and understanding of municipal operations. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, discretion, and judgement is required. 
  • Complex analysis and highly developed reasoning and planning skills to solve a wide range of business and operational problems.
