Development Engineering within the Community Planning Business Unit is seeking skilled and motivated individuals who aspire to work on exciting, city-shaping initiatives. As a Development Engineer, you will be responsible for representing the Development Engineering Division at the Development Approvals Review Team (DART). Primary duties include:

  • Review and provide professional municipal engineering judgment and input on complex planning applications, including: area structure plans and area redevelopment plans; land use applications; outline plan applications; development permits; road closures; subdivision applications and detailed design construction drawings reviews.
  • Negotiate and prepare legal agreements to accommodate land development.
  • Conduct the final review and sign-off of comments and conditions related to DART applications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise input into corporate decisions on various applications.
  • Respond to inquiries related to development within an assigned geographic area.
  • Attend public and councilor meetings and open houses as required for applications.
  • Balance the needs of The City with the development industry to ensure infrastructure is constructed in a safe, timely and effective manner.
  • Lead or participate in special projects, task forces and committees that require engineering evaluation and response.
  • Represent Community Planning at the Calgary Planning Commission (CPC) and the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB) by responding to questions related to the engineering review of development applications, including technical details of relevant standards, policies and practices.

Compensation: Level E $91,367 - 137,955 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
