As a Skate or Hockey Instructor, you will work as part of an energetic and passionate team to plan, instruct and lead skating programs including learn to skate and hockey. Primary duties include: 
  • Teach specific skills to participants through progressive instruction.
  • Adhere to standard curriculum and completion of participant progress cards.
  • Develop lesson plans and resources for programs.
  • Provide safety expertise and ensure well-being of participants.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies and program space.
  • Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
  • Maintain high degree of customer service. 
 
Qualifications 
  • Minimum of 16 years of age is required for Level 1.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age is required for Level 2. 
  • A strong hockey, figure skating and/or ringette background is required. 
  • Level 2 Instructors must have at least 2 years of experience teaching skating, hockey, or ringette. 
  • Previous experience mentoring and coaching peers is required. 
  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Hockey and/or Figure Skating Certification will be considered an asset. 
  • Previous training and knowledge of High Five/Physical Literacy will be considered an asset. 
  • Strong communication skills along with demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills. 
  • Sound judgment in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills.
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • Current Intermediate First Aid (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required. 
  • A valid security clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. 
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition.

Skate/Hockey Instructor 1: $19.00 - 24.00 per hour. 
Skate/Hockey Instructor 2: $22.00 - 32.00 per hour.
Days of Work: This position typically works 
various days including daytime, evening, 
and weekend shifts.
Hours of work: This position works on-call hours 
based on operational requirements.
