The Facility Operations Foreman is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Local 37 execution of building maintenance and mechanical maintenance work order delivery. This position oversees day-to-day coordination of both preventative and on-demand maintenance and repair for their assigned portfolio of buildings including residential, commercial, and light industrial building types. Primary duties include:

  • Assign, oversee and assess the completion of demand, preventative and predictive maintenance and repair for building and mechanical maintenance work orders.
  • Ensure internal staff or external service providers are conducting work safely and efficiently.
  • Manage assigned resources for daily operational activities and identify resource requirements, staff capacity and individual resource availability.
  • Visit staff regularly to ensure work is being performed safely and to City standards.
  • Review invoices and recommendations to improve preventative maintenance tasks along with completion of Property Damage Occurrence Reporting and conduct corporate credit card reconciliation.
  • Investigate work order issues and incidences, provide support to staff and aide with troubleshooting of building systems and tasks, and lead response to emergency situations related to mechanical and building maintenance matters.
  • Act as a resource for queries from client, present information, answer questions as required, provide clarity, and develop options for resolution when necessary.
  • Communicate potential impacts of disruptive work.
  • Support administrative duties related to staff coverage.
  • Coordinate, track and ensure staff have current safety training certification records.
  • Oversee management of vehicles, equipment, and tools and coordinate applicable site-specific training and/or orientation.
  • Ensure all work is completed within all applicable environment and OH&S codes, legislation, standards, and policies.
 
Qualifications 
  • A 4th Class Power Engineer certificate with at least 8 years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of facilities; OR
  • A Journeyman Certificate in a related field with at least 5 years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of facilities within the respective trade.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • This position requires effective communication, strong leadership skills, time management skills and strong customer focus.
 
Working Conditions: This position requires indoor and outdoor work with driving. Multiple positions will be hired. Working in various locations.
 
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
 
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
