As the Business Strategist, you will be responsible for providing ongoing strategic and operational support to Calgary Transit with a focus on priority projects. In this role, you will create and implement long-term strategies, research industry best practices, and analyze Calgary Transit data to develop political and strategic recommendations. You will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, analyze market trends, and formulate strategic positions. Primary duties include:

  • Develop and implement strategies and policies to guide business unit operations.
  • Document processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Build relationships with City staff, business partners, and external organizations.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives in Calgary Transit, develop new processes and systems to support business unit goals, and identify and address emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to develop process improvements, support team building, undertake data gathering and analysis, problem identification and resolution, use project management skills, and support strategic procurement.
  • Identify and evaluate existing/emerging issues and develops plans, strategies, and tactics to address issues and monitor for improvement/resolution.
  • Develop reports, presentations, and deliver recommendations to departmental teams, business unit leadership, management teams, the public and City Council.
  • Produce memos, briefing notes, presentations, business cases, data and financial analysis and procurement documents to meet Calgary Transit's requirements.
 
Qualifications 
  • A degree in Commerce, Business Management, Operations, Urban Studies, Public Policy, Economics, or a related discipline with at least 5 years of experience including strategic planning, business analysis and policy development.
  • Experience with successfully implementing process and service improvement initiatives will be given preference.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, Power BI reporting, dashboard development and Council report writing would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills as well as the ability to prioritize, build consensus among internal/external partners and influence without authority.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $42.09 - 56.27 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
