As an Eligibility Specialist, you will be involved in developing individualized approaches to assess applicants and determine if they qualify for accessible transportation services. Eligibility is based on a customer's ability to use Calgary Transit buses and CTrains. You will be responsible for interviewing applicants, conducting functional assessments, and reviewing the supporting health/personal information of the applicant to determine eligibility, and in turn, the appropriate level of services. Primary duties include: 
  • Conduct in person interviews with applicants that may not be able to use Calgary Transit. 
  • Determine if safety equipment is required on vehicles (5-point harness, mandatory attendant) and determine what safety protocols need to be in place for customers upon pick up and drop off. 
  • Ensure information gathered or obtained on behalf of applicants is managed and stored in a safe and secure manner respecting the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) requirements. 
  • Ensure the database(s) utilized are accurate and up to date. 
  • Represent Calgary Transit Access at Appeal Board hearings and present to the Board in detail the reasons behind certain decision(s). 
  • Respond to various customer inquiries and escalations about program eligibility, research and provide information to individuals who are not eligible for services. 
  • Liaise with external organizations, agencies, and medical professionals. 
 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2-year diploma in a related field such as Social Work, Community Rehabilitation, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, or Occupational Therapy. 
  • At least 5 years of experience working directly with people with disabilities and seniors, with clinical knowledge as to what challenges are associated with various diagnoses and disabilities. 
  • Thorough knowledge of how various disabilities and age-related challenges affect one's ability to use Calgary Transit is required. 
  • Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is an asset. 
  • Success in this position requires the following competencies: 
    • The ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions. 
    • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. 
    • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. 
    • Very strong and quick keyboarding skills. 
    • An aptitude for working independently in a fast-paced environment. 
    • The ability to prioritize a heavy workload. 
    • Ability to make written notes quickly and capture all information accurately.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour 
Days of Work: This position works on-call basis during regular work hours (Monday - Friday).
Hours of work: On-Call hours will vary based on operational requirements.
