As a Swim Instructor, you will teach participants of all ages and levels safety education and swimming skills. This position offers flexible hours and a fun and friendly atmosphere. Primary duties include:
  • Evaluate student performance and accomplishments; keep records of participant performance and attendance.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and deal with questions and concerns regarding swimming lessons.
  • Prepare and organize equipment, supplies, and general cleaning tasks.
 
Qualifications 
  • Current Swim for Life Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner, and Lifesaving CPR Instructor/Examiner (valid within 24 months) are required. 
  • Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification (valid within 12 months) is required. 
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C" and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications (valid within 12 months) from an approved Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) provider are required. 
  • Completion of the Bronze Medals Award 2021 Mandatory Update (Lifesaving Society) is required. 
  • Previous experience leading recreation programs or teaching swim lessons is an asset. 
  • Experience in a customer service environment is an asset. 
  • Daytime availability and previous volunteer work will also be considered an asset. 
  • You are a strong communicator with demonstrated adaptability and team leadership skills. 
 
Working Conditions: This position works primarily in the water, has exposure to chlorine, may be exposed to high noise levels, and may include heavy lifting. 
 
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • A security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. 
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition. 
 
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
